The term “Psychoeducational” refers to the integration of psychology (the study of human behavior and mental processes) and education. Psychoeducational testing, thus, involves psychological and educational tests used to gather information in a structured way about the mental processes that form the basis of your child’s educational performance. Psychoeducational testing is part of a comprehensive evaluation that consists of:
A discussion with you about what you see as your child’s strengths and needs in learning.
A discussion with your child’s education team about what has been observed.
A discussion with your child about school, learning, and what testing will be like.
A school observation of your child.
Administering and scoring tests carefully chosen to address the issues you and the school team have raised.
Integration of all findings and observations into a comprehensive and readable report with practical recommendations.
A feedback meeting with you and the school team to discuss findings and how to implement a program that helps you and your child put all the pieces together and maximize learning potential.
